Return from the Perilous Realm

It was a dark and stormy night, as always.

The brave explorer slipped from shadow to shadow, squinting in the blowing rain. Lightning fractured the sky. He glanced about in the light-burst, fingering his sword. Perils abounded in this realm. He must reach the Door. . . .

Beep! Beep! Beep! He burst through the Door of Alarm. A new day welcomed him–sunlight, birds singing, bacon sizzling. One journey complete, another looming.

He climbed out of bed.

Nice twist. . .I liked it. Then thinking about it, it reminded me about a morning prayer I copied down from somewhere: “So far today, God, I’ve done all right. I haven’t gossiped or lost my temper. I haven’t been really grumpy, greedy, nasty or selfish. I’m really glad about that—but in a few minutes, God, I’m going to get out of bed. From then on I’m probably going to need a lot of help. Amen.”

  4. I really like the Door of Alarm too. And I think I understand why you wanted that first sentence, but honestly I think the piece reads better without it.

    • Thanks–for the comment and the honesty! Personally I kind of like the first sentence (obviously, since I didn’t edit it out before posting), but you may be right. I definitely appreciate the feedback–feel free to critique what you read on here anytime! ๐Ÿ™‚
